MACAA Welcomes New Executive Director

The Monticello Area Community Action Agency (MACAA) is excited to announce the appointment of Suzanne Bowers as its new Executive Director. Suzanne brings more than 20 years of nonprofit leadership experience, with a strong record of building programs that uplift families, expand opportunities, and strengthen communities. Known for her compassionate leadership and commitment to equity, she has dedicated her career to helping people thrive through education, advocacy, and collaboration.

Before joining MACAA, Suzanne served as Executive Director of Nest Academy RVA, where she guided the organization’s growth and strengthened partnerships that improved access to inclusive education. She previously led the Parent Educational Advocacy Training Center (PEATC) for nearly 18 years, helping thousands of Virginia families navigate educational systems and access critical supports for children with disabilities.

“I am honored to join MACAA and continue its mission of empowering individuals and strengthening families,” said Suzanne Bowers. “This organization has a long and proud history of serving Central Virginia, and I look forward to working side by side with the team, our partners, and the community to expand opportunity and build a brighter future for all.”

Suzanne holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from High Point University and a Nonprofit Management Certification from Duke University. Throughout her career, she has been recognized for her collaborative spirit, inclusive approach, and dedication to creating lasting community impact.
