MACAA is looking for Board Members!

Affordability has become a crisis. More and more of our community members struggle to make ends meet. You can help by contributing your skills and voice to our Board, helping to oversee and advise our staff on programs that support our neighbors who are most in need.

Community Action Agencies (CAA) were created by Congress as part of LBJ’s War on Poverty. They were created to put federal funds to work fighting the root causes of poverty at the grassroots level, addressing the needs the community identifies, leveraging local relationships and capacity.

 MACAA was one of the first nonprofit CAAs in 1965, serving the City of Charlottesville and the surrounding counties of Albemarle, Nelson, Fluvanna, and Louisa. Today, our work is funded through a combination of federal block grants, TANF funds, locality and foundation grants, and other private philanthropy. Our mission is to empower people to navigate pathways to social and economic stability and opportunity by educating, inspiring, and advocating for those in need.
